Excellent teaching microscope
We purchased several CX23 units for our college biology lab and they've held up wonderfully. The optics are crisp and the LED illumination is bright and consistent.

The Olympus CX23 biological microscope is a compact, entry-to-mid-level clinical and educational instrument built for laboratories, classrooms, and research settings that demand dependable optical performance without the complexity of higher-tier systems. Designed around Olympus's renowned optical engineering, the CX23 features UIS2 infinity-corrected optics that deliver crisp, high-contrast images with minimal chromatic aberration, making it well suited for viewing stained blood smears, tissue sections, microbial cultures, and other biological specimens. Its rugged, ergonomic body reflects Olympus's long history of building durable instruments that withstand daily use in busy teaching labs, hospitals, and veterinary clinics, while remaining approachable for students who are just beginning their study of microscopy.
At the heart of the CX23 is a quadruple nosepiece typically fitted with achromatic objective lenses covering a standard magnification range from 40x up to 1000x, paired with widefield eyepieces that provide a comfortable, wide viewing area for extended observation sessions. The coaxial coarse and fine focus knobs are positioned for intuitive, fatigue-free operation, and the mechanical stage allows precise specimen positioning with smooth X-Y movement. Illumination comes from a built-in LED light source, which offers bright, consistent, and energy-efficient lighting compared to older halogen bulbs, along with a long service life that reduces maintenance needs. The Abbe condenser and iris diaphragm allow users to fine-tune contrast and resolution, ensuring that even subtle cellular structures remain visible during detailed examination.
Whether used by nursing and medical students learning to identify pathogens, biology instructors demonstrating cellular structures, or lab technicians performing routine diagnostic work, the Olympus CX23 provides a reliable balance of image quality, durability, and ease of use. Its binocular or monocular head configurations accommodate different user preferences and budgets, while the overall footprint remains small enough for space-constrained classrooms or shared lab benches. Backed by Olympus's reputation for long-term optical performance and serviceability, the CX23 stands as a trusted choice within the broader microscopes and science kits category, offering an accessible entry point into professional-grade biological microscopy for students, educators, and clinical professionals alike.

Solid build and beautiful image quality. My only complaint is I had to buy a separate trinocular head to attach my microscope camera.
I use this daily for blood smear analysis. The mechanical stage and fine focus make detailed examination quick and comfortable.
Been using this microscope for over a year in a homeschool science program. It's a bit pricier than expected but the build quality justifies it.
