Great for home lab documentation
I added a C-mount camera to the trinocular port and now I can capture slides easily for my biology blog. Optics are crisp and the stage movement is smooth.

The AmScope T490B Trinocular Microscope is a compound microscope built for serious hobbyists, students, and lab professionals who need dependable optical performance along with the flexibility of digital imaging. Featuring a sturdy trinocular head, this microscope allows users to view specimens through the standard binocular eyepieces while simultaneously routing light to a third port for a camera attachment, making it easy to capture photos or stream live video of samples without disrupting the viewing experience. The build quality reflects AmScope's reputation for durable, metal-framed constructions, offering long-term stability on a lab bench or classroom table where repeated use is expected.
Optically, the T490B is equipped with achromatic objective lenses that deliver sharp, high-contrast images across a range of magnifications, typically spanning from low power for general specimen scanning up to higher magnifications suited for detailed cellular or microorganism observation. The widefield eyepieces paired with these objectives ensure a comfortable viewing experience while minimizing chromatic aberration, so users see true-to-life color and clarity whether they are examining prepared slides, live samples, or thin sections. Köhler-style or standard illumination systems built into the base provide adjustable brightness, and features like a mechanical stage with X-Y controls make it simple to navigate slides with precision, a critical feature for anyone doing detailed research or coursework in biology, microbiology, or related science fields.
Beyond its optical and mechanical strengths, the AmScope T490B is designed with versatility in mind, making it a practical investment for microscopy enthusiasts who may want to expand into digital documentation later on. The trinocular port accepts standard C-mount cameras, which means users can integrate AmScope's own line of digital imaging accessories or compatible third-party cameras to create a fully digital workflow for capturing, saving, and sharing microscopic images. Whether used in an educational lab setting, a research facility, or a dedicated home science space, this microscope strikes a balance between traditional optical microscopy and modern digital capabilities, giving users a reliable tool that grows with their evolving observational and documentation needs.

The metal body feels sturdy and focus is precise. Only complaint is the halogen bulb gets warm after long sessions, so I plan to switch to an LED kit.
Magnification range covers everything from plant cells to bacteria smears. The trinocular head was a great decision since I use it with a phone adapter too.
Bought this for my son's science projects. Images are clear at all objective levels, and it's easy to use once you get familiar with the stage controls.
Works great once you get a compatible camera adapter. Wish that came included, but overall the optical quality justifies the price.
