Kept my kids busy for weeks
We bought this for my two kids and they've been doing a different experiment almost every day. The variety is amazing and the instructions are easy to follow even for my 9-year-old working mostly on her own.

The National Geographic Mega Science Lab Kit is an expansive, all-in-one introduction to the physical and natural sciences, designed for curious young learners who want to explore chemistry, biology, geology, and physics without needing a dozen separate kits. Packed into one large set, it brings together dozens of hands-on activities and experiments that let kids grow crystals, mix color-changing solutions, extract DNA, test pH levels, and investigate the properties of light, magnetism, and density. Rather than focusing on a single discipline, this kit functions as a true laboratory starter set, giving budding scientists a broad, exploratory foundation before they decide which area of science excites them most.
Inside the box, families will find a generous collection of lab tools and consumable materials, including test tubes, pipettes, mixing trays, measuring scoops, protective eyewear, and an assortment of chemicals and natural specimens needed to complete the included experiments. The accompanying instruction guide walks through each activity in clear, step-by-step language, explaining not just how to perform the experiment but why it works, reinforcing core scientific concepts like chemical reactions, states of matter, and the scientific method. Because National Geographic designed the kit with both engagement and education in mind, the experiments are structured to feel like genuine discoveries rather than rote demonstrations, encouraging kids to ask questions, record observations, and draw their own conclusions.
Built for durability and repeated use, the kit's components are sturdy enough to withstand enthusiastic young scientists performing experiment after experiment, and many of the included tools can be reused once the original consumables run out, extending the kit's lifespan well beyond the first unboxing. Its broad scope makes it especially well suited for homeschool science curricula, rainy-day STEM activities, or as a standout gift for children who gravitate toward hands-on learning over passive entertainment. By combining multiple branches of science into a single, well-organized set, the National Geographic Mega Science Lab Kit offers exceptional value within the microscopes and science kits category, giving kids a genuine taste of laboratory work while sparking the kind of early curiosity that often grows into a lasting interest in STEM.

Tons of experiments for the price, which is great. A couple of the plastic tools felt cheap and broke after a few uses, but overall still worth it for the educational value.
This kit has been a great supplement to our homeschool science curriculum. Covers a wide range of topics so my son doesn't get bored. Just wish the manual explained the 'why' behind experiments a bit more.
Some of the experiments involve heat and chemicals so I had to stay close the whole time. Fine for us, but if you're looking for something totally hands-off for a 10-year-old, this isn't quite it.
Bought this as a birthday gift for my nephew and he absolutely loves it. The crystal growing experiment was a huge hit. Highly recommend for any kid interested in science.
