Great for coin and mineral inspection
I bought this for examining old coins and rock samples, and the detail is fantastic. The dual lighting really helps see texture and color accurately. Solid metal body too, doesn't feel cheap at all.

The Celestron 44348 Advanced Stereo Microscope is built for anyone who wants to explore the three-dimensional world of coins, rocks, insects, plants, and other solid specimens with clarity and ease. Featuring a durable, sturdy metal frame and dual eyepieces, this microscope delivers true stereo, upright viewing so hobbyists, students, and educators alike can examine textures and details that flat, two-dimensional microscopes simply cannot reveal. With magnification levels of 20x and 40x, achieved through its interchangeable eyepieces and objective lenses, users can move seamlessly from broad overviews to closer, more detailed inspection without losing the natural depth perception that makes stereo microscopy so valuable for hands-on discovery.
Designed with functionality and comfort in mind, the 44348 includes both top and bottom LED illumination, allowing users to view opaque specimens under reflected light or translucent samples with light passing through from below. This dual lighting system, powered by a simple battery setup, makes the microscope versatile enough to handle a wide variety of subjects, from butterfly wings and leaves to small electronic components and mineral samples. The large, stable stage plate and adjustable focus knob make it easy to position specimens and dial in a sharp, comfortable image, while the adjustable interpupillary distance ensures that users with different eye spacing can enjoy a clear, merged view through both eyepieces.
As part of Celestron's well-regarded lineup of educational optics, the 44348 Advanced Stereo Microscope is a popular choice for classrooms, homeschool science programs, and curious hobbyists who want a reliable entry point into serious specimen observation. Its solid construction and straightforward controls make it approachable for beginners, while the quality glass optics and dual illumination give more experienced users the performance they need for detailed study. Compact enough for a desktop or lab bench yet robust enough for repeated use, this stereo microscope pairs practicality with genuine optical performance, making it a dependable tool for anyone looking to bring the small, textured details of the natural and man-made world into sharp, three-dimensional focus.

We use this in our homeschool science curriculum. The two magnification settings are enough for basic exploration of bugs, leaves, and small objects. Wish it had more zoom flexibility but overall happy with the purchase.
Build quality is great and focusing is smooth thanks to the rack-and-pinion system. My only gripe is the eyepieces feel a little flimsy compared to the rest of the unit. Still, for the price, it delivers solid performance.
I use this for soldering and inspecting circuit boards. The working distance is generous, giving me plenty of room to work with tools under the scope. The lighting system is versatile and the image is sharp and three-dimensional.
It's a well-made microscope, but I was hoping for more magnification versatility. The 20x-40x range is fine for basic tasks but I quickly wanted more. Still, the optics and lighting are pretty good for the price point.
